River Valley Ranch

About Us

River Valley Ranch lies in an idyllic valley with fertile fields and the Kootenay River running through it.

River Valley Ranch is an old-world mixed farm applying bio-dynamic farming practices to the individual and the whole. The farm and household are off-grid and run on alternative energy. The farm is nestled in the Rocky Mountain Trench and is bounded by the Kootenay River and Crown Land. A small orchard and vineyard are sited on a sunny south west pocket. The permaculture orchard and vineyard host an understory guild of wild and farmed crops and will are a refuge for wild bees. As we continue building out the farm we have established the orchard with a variety of mixed fruit and nut trees. Additional ponds and wetlands for the farm are under construction and are our current focus.

We produce and apply biodynamic preparations, compost and manuring to our gardens, orchard, vineyard, pastures and hayfields. No petrochemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides are used on our land.

River Valley Ranch is a farm where animals freely range on grass pasture, herb filled meadows, and our own forest land. The cattle forage for themselves supplemented with certified organic hay in the winter. No GMO, silage or industrial by-products are used on the farm.

Our Practices

Our Commitment to Regenerative Organic and Biodynamic Farming

We believe in farming practices that restore and enhance our environment. Our regenerative organic and biodynamic approach ensures that our pastures are healthy and productive, providing the best possible conditions for our Highland cattle who live as a closed herd in this low-stress, pasture-based environment. What does that mean for you?

Healthier Diversified Forage = Healthier Cattle = Better Beef on your dinner table.

Why Choose Local Beef?

Simply put - you can't get this at the grocery store. Our single animal sourced ground beef, roasts and premium steaks are truly a cut above and typically reserved for high-end restaurants and dining. We support our local community by providing you a direct source for high-quality beef.  By choosing River Valley Ranch, you are supporting local farmers and ensuring that your beef is raised with the highest standards of care, with a focus on human health and sustainability.

Why the name?

We chose the name River Valley Ranch because it reflects where we live and work. Our ranch sits in a fertile valley within the Rocky Mountain Trench, bordered by the Kootenay River and surrounded by Crown Land.

The name captures the essence of this place, a working ranch sustained by the river that runs through our valley, and our commitment to living in harmony with the land, water, and the regenerative farming practices we follow.
